Create an authentic sports experience to educate and develop
children to be competent and enthusiastic sportspersons, fulfilling each child’s true potential.
Sports pedagogy is a discipline of sport science that focuses on educational processes via exercise, movement, play and sport.
WHY IS PEDGOGY IMPORTANT ?
Having a well-thought-out pedagogy improves the quality of our teaching and the way learners learn, helping them gain a better
grasp of fundamental knowledge and skills. Being mindful of the way coaches teach helps them better understand how to help
learners achieve meaningful learning.
For a young beginner, participation in sport should be viewed as a learning journey – it begins with a purpose.
Naturally, in order to sustain interest, young children need to enjoy the sport. Together with fun-play elements, we nurture interest in
sports by improving performance. When children play better progressively, it helps to spur their interest in the sport to the next level.
In any sport, learning involves not only improving physical dexterity. Learners need to be well-motivated and knowledgeable.
At WESPORTS, we adopt a holistic approach to training.
At WESPORTS, we adopt a holistic approach aim at:
1. The optimal improvement of learning and performance;
2. The support of motivation;
3. As well as the promotion of positive social and emotional growth.
In order to reconcile these goals, we emphasize effective coaching behaviors and environments that are most healthy for children’s and youths’ social, emotional, athletic and cognitive development.
Each learner is given a ‘Monitor Progress Booklet’. Based on observations and experience, qualified coaches are trained to
make objective and reliable interim progress assessments. The learner’s progress will be monitored periodically, in tandem with
each cycle of the lesson plan. Progress assessment includes assessing the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of
each learner.
Monitoring learners’ progress is important because:
1. It allows the coach to understand the strengths and weaknesses of individual child/youth.
2. It allows the coach to reconcile what was planned for training and what was achieved.
3. It leads to effective communication between learners/parents and coaches.
4. Information gathered will be used to prepare for the next step of the training program.
Ultimately, monitoring the holistic learning progression enhances a child’s self-efficacy and leads to practices that improve performance.
Marc is the founder of WESPORTS, a tennis enthusiast since his school days. His passion for the sport, particularly his forte in engaging and grooming young children, has won over many parents and children alike. He is still teaching the same group of teenagers since their middle childhood.
Marc believes in ‘KAIZEN’, the Japanese philosophy that nothing is perfect, that we can always make or do things better, that continuous, incremental improvement adds up to substantial change over time. He also believed that all problems should be seen as opportunities to improve things.
Under Marc’s leadership, his dedication and success in coaching tennis to kids and adults, has inspired many coaches that WESPORTS has employed over the past 10 years since the sports training school was formed.
